Review | NEW Smashbox L.A Lights Blush & Highlight Palette

B&H palette

This is what it says on the Smashbox website:
Getting a fresh, youthful flush for any occasion just got a lot more low maintenance. We partnered two carefully curated, tonal shades of blush with their perfectly matched highlighter—so you’ll never have to worry about shades clashing again.
Two shades mean you can turn up your rosiness from subtle to dramatic to match any look, occasion or season.
These also claim to be long-wearing, richly pigmented blush shades, and they are supposed to stay true to color all day – no streaking or fading.

swa

(Swatches Top-Bottom: Rich Pink, True Pink, Highlight Pink)

So, my immediate thought when I first tried this was that it was way too pigmented for a blush, and I wasn’t expecting them to be that pigmented, but they are.
Now, I do think that these are very beautiful blushes, but you do have to use a very (!) light hand with these, because they will make you look like a clown in no time (trust me, I’ve been there).
But if you use them sparlingly they do look very beautiful on the skin! They are also easy to blend and they do stay true to color all day, so I do think that they hold up the claims.

Now, I also think that every shade in here pairs beautifully together, and you could mix-and-match them to get the color you want, but I do not think that the highlight shade in here really can be used as a highlighter.
Maybe on deeper skintones, but for me it is more of a blush-topper, I could even use it as a blush on it’s own, so that’s something to keep in mind.

I also have to mention that these are, at least to me, very bright shades. You could tone them down, but if you’re more into very subtle blushes, these may not be what you’re looking for.
But I really don’t have anything bad to say about this palette, so if you’re into ‘bright’ pink blushes I would recommend getting this (they do also have other palettes with different colors), but if you are very heavy handed when you apply blush these may not be for you.

I got mine from Kicks for 280nok in the shade “Pacific Coast Pink”.

Favourites | Top 5 April 2016

favorites

Hello.
It’s time for favourites again.
Some of these products I may have done a review on previously, if so they will be linked at the end of the post.

skindinavia

So this month I’ve been loving my Skindinavia oil-controll setting spray for both locking my makeup into place, and for toning down the powdery look I sometimes get when I use too much powder.
This also helps with oil-controll, but it doesn’t keep me matte all day so my oils does start to peek through after a while, but I’ve noticed that I don’t look too shiny throughout the day when I use this, so I’ve really been loving this.

mac pro longwear

For foundation this month I’ve been using my MAC pro longwear foundation, but I’ve also been mixing it with other foundations I don’t like on their own, like the Urban Decay naked skin foundation.
But no matter if I use this on it’s own or mixed with something else, this stays on all day and it covers everything I need covered, so everytime I need something I can trust I reach for this.

highlight

My favorite highlight for this month has been the Wet n Wild to reflect shimmer palette in the shade ‘Rosè Champagne Glow’.
This is such a beautiful, cool-toned, pinky highlighter, it is not too glittery or chunky, but it gives such a beautiful glow, and you can build it up for more intensity if you wanted to do that.
Also it stays in place all day, so you don’t have to worry about it moving around or falling down onto your cheeks or anything.
Now, this particular one is from the Fergie Centerstage collection which I think was limited edition, but I found the same shades on the wet n wild website, the only difference is that the Fergie name isn’t on the packaging, and they have renamed them, so if you want this one it’s now called ‘I’ll Have A Cosmo’.

mascara

For lashes I’ve been keeping them natural looking this month.
Because I wear glasses I don’t always want my lashes to look too dramatic, but at the same time I want them to be long and separated, and the mascara I find works best for that is the L’atelier Maquillage Mascara KeraCare.
I got mine in a Glossybox a few months ago, and I’ve been using it ever since.
This separates and lenghtens my lashes perfectly, so if you like natural, everyday type looking lashes you should check this out.

smashbox

And my last favorite for this month is the Smashbox Double Exposure Palette.
Now, I did just do a review on this, but I haven’t been able to put it down.
Like I said in my review I do have to pull out a transition shade, but the range of both warm and cool toned shadows that you get with this gives you so many options.
I’ve been mostly reaching for the warmer, more peachy shades in this, but they are all beautiful shades, and they do last all day without fading or creasing.

Review | NEW Urban Decay Beached Bronzer

UD Bronzer

Reading on the back of the product it says:
Get beached, not burnt. This finely milled, super-soft powder bronzer applies smoothly, doesn’t streak, and creates a bronzed, radiant glow that won’t quit.
Perfect for the face and body, our sheer, natural-looking shades can be used wet or dry.
They also say that it’s great for contouring.

I have to say that everything this bronzer claims to do, it does.
This is so easy to work with, it blends perfectly, and it’s so smooth that I would pet this all day if I could. It basically feels like silk.
I also love the fact that it’s not very pigmented, because I feel like it’s better to build up a bronzer gradually than to put on too much right away, so I do like that this is a sheer, but buildable formula.

Now, I don’t know how this applies wet, but I’m sure you could do that if you wanted to, but personally I don’t feel the need to do that.
I also have’t tried this for contouring, because I’m not really that into that trend, and I think that this bronzer might be a bit warm for that, but of course that depends on your preferences.

However, I got shade ‘Sun-Kissed’ and it does work for me now that I’m fairly light, but if you have a medium-light to a dark skintone I think you should get the darker shade.
But either way I am so impressed with this.
It looks so beautiful on the skin, and it lasts all day without looking streaky or fading.
So if you’re looking for a bronzer I would highly, highly recommend these from Urban Decay.

I got mine from Kicks for 265nok.

Review | Smashbox Double Exposure Palette

Palette

This is what it says on the Smashbox website:
State-of-the-art coated pigments make the magic happen. This coating technology creates multiple effects when wet, allowing the shadows to transform in one of four ways. So 14 shadows actually become 28 shades—all in just one palette.

Swatches_edited

(I did build up the swatches in this photo)

So, to be honest, one of the main reasons I got this palette is because I haven’t heard too much about it.
I know that the ‘Full Exposure’ palette didn’t get the best reviews and that may have something to do with why I don’t hear people talk about this, but I am impressed by this.
Now, there are some drawbacks to this palette like the fact that you don’t get a matte transition shade in here, and there’s also a lot of dark shades in this, but I do think that you can get a lot of looks out of this.

However, one of the main reasons that makes me reach for this palette is the way these shadows apply. They are fairly pigmented, but they can also go on sheer and I really like shadows that I can build up rather than tone down, if you know what I mean?
So I have the option to go really intense or very soft and natural, and yes, that can be a drawback for some people, but I don’t mind that at all.

I also like the fact that you can wet them for a more intense color, and some of them kinda turns from a satin-matte to a more metallic shade when you use them wet, so you do have a lot of options with this palette.
Now, I have to say that if you use them wet they are a bit harder to blend, but there’s nothing so bad that you can’t easily work with it.
And I don’t have any issues with creasing, and they stay on my lids until I take of my makeup, so they do last all day.

And lastly you do get a double ended brush in here. I have tried it, and do think it’s an OK brush, but it is kind of stiff, so I prefer to use other brushes, but it’s not bad and you could use it if you want to.

So, overall I would recommend this palette if you don’t mind pulling in another shadow to use as a transition shade (if you want to do that), but if you want a palette that has everything you need, I don’t think that this is it, because I always have to pull in something else.

I got mine from Kicks for 360nok.

Review | NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

2

This is what it says on the NYX website:
Now available in twelve more statement-making shades, our velvety smooth Soft Matte Lip Cream delivers a burst of creamy color and sets to a stunning matte finish. Surprisingly durable, lightweight and delightfully creamy, it’s no wonder this sweetly scented formula is a NYX fan favorite.

Swatches 1

So, I got these because I’ve heard so many good things about them and because they’re inexpencive I thought I’d give them a try, but I have to say that these are some of the worst lip products I’ve tried so far.

Now, there are several reasons I don’t like these, first of all every shade I’ve got goes on patchy, and they immediately starts to ball up (kind of like a thick sunscreen does), and that’s not a good look.
Also they wear of way too fast when you’re drinking or rubbing your lips together, and even though they don’t cost much at all, I had higher expectations for the lasting power of these.
And lastly because they all settle in my liplines, making them look quite old, almost. Now I know that matte lip products can do that when they dry down, but none of these did dry down on me, so it was all just very weird.

However, the scent of these is amazing. They smell very sweet, kind of like a vanilla-coffee kind of a scent, and I really do like that.
And they feel very good on the lips, very velvety, they actually feel alot like the Smashbox insta-matte, which is nice.
But overall, I just can’t recommend these. I would much rather do the extra step of applying my insta-matte on top of any of my other lipsticks than to spend my money on these.
They’re just not worth it in my oppinion.

I got mine from Kicks for 79 nok a piece.
