Favorite Products 2016

hdr

Since we’re at the end of 2016 I wanted to talk about all the products that I’ve been using, and loving, contiuously throughout the year.
Now, not all of these are new releases this year, but these are the products that I’ve been reaching for all the time.

hdr

The first product I wanted to talk about is the Clinique Mineral Sunscreen SPF50,
Now, I do tend to have issues with my SPF balling up and crumbling on my skin, but this doesn’t do that at all.
It does leave me with a white cast, but I do use a foundation on top of it, and it doesn’t disturb the makeup I put on top, so I really really love this SPF.

hdr

Next I have the Smashbox Primer Water.
Now, I’ve been raving about this so much so I won’t stay too long on this, but this does such a good job of keeping my skin hydrated, and it also helps remove abit of the powdery look I get when I apply too much powder.
Now, I know that people either love this or hate this, but I really really enjoy using this.

hdr

Next up is the Smashbox Color Correcting Stick in the dark peach shade.
Now, I haven’t used this for more than a few months, but I find that this does neutralize my dark circles a bit more than the next product I’ll talk about.
So I have been loving this on those days when I’m extra tired, and need that little bit of extra coverage.

hdr

So when I’ve been getting a bit more sleep, I love using the Bobbi Brown correctors.
I have it in the shades “Light Peach” and “Deep Peach”, so I can mix and match depending on how bad my dark circles are that day.
But these are not as pigmented as the Smashbox one, so I reach for these on the days when I don’t need as much coverage.

hdr

For foundation this year I’ve been loving the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish foundation.
It’s so easy to work with, and you can very easily control how much coverage you get from it.
The only thing is that it doesn’t set on it’s own, soc I would recommend setting it with a powder.

hdr

This next “foundation” is one I use more in the summer months becuase it’s too dark for me when I’m pale, but I truly fell in love the Smashbox BB Water this year.
This is so lightweight on the skin, it doesn’t get oily (if you set it with powder) and it does last all day.
So if you want a lightweight, natural “foundation” that still covers beautifully, I’d recommend checking this out.

hdr

Moving on I wanted to quickly talk about the MAC Studio Finish concealer.
I love using this for blemishes, or other discolorations I may have, and it covers beautifully.
Now, I woldn’t use it under my eyes since it is such a thick and heavy concealer, but this is my go to when it comes to spot concealing.

hdr

Next up I have the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer.
Now, when I first tried this I didn’t really see what all the hype was about, but the more I used it, the more I liked it.
I wouldn’t say that I think that this is the best concealer in the world, but I have reached for it most of 2016.

hdr

The next product I have to talk about is the Smashbox Studio Skin concealer.
Now, the reason I like this is because I find that it gives around the same amount of coverage as the Naked Skin one, but I find that this feels a little bit less heavy underneath my eyes. And I also find that the shade suits me a bit better with this one as well.
However, you do only get .08 fl. oz with this, which is something to keep in mind because you will run out of this a lot faster than you might expect.

hdr

Next up is the Smashbox contour stick.
I love using this before my foundation to get that little bit of contour without making it too strong.
You can, of course, use it over foundation as well, but I just like it better when I use is before.
Now, I will say that it is easier to work with if you don’t let it sit on your face before you blend it, but it is so creamy, and it does blend out beautifully, so I do really enjoy using this.

hdr

Moving on to the Laura Mercier Loose Translucent powder.
Now, I’ve been using this powder all the time since I got it, and I love the way it sets my foundation and concealer, but I do not like it for baking because I find that it’s a bit too white and dry for me. Not that I’m a huge fan of baking to begin with, but I do really like it as a setting powder all over.

hdr

Next I have the Urban Decay Beached Bronzer.
Now, this is more of a summer type product for me, but I do really really love if because it is a very smooth powder, and it’s not overly pigmented, so it is very easy to controll. And I’m a huge fan of bronzers that gives me the opption to choose how much product I’m applying to my face.

hdr

My next favorite is the MAC Powder Blush in the shade “Fun Ending”.
This is a very pale pink shade, but it is my perfect shade of pink, and I love the glow it gives since it is a satin finish.
Now, my issue with this is that it wasn’t limited edition, but I can’t find it anywhere, so I’m not sure if you can get it anymore, but I have been reaching for this all the time. And I am sure that MAC has other pale pink blushes that look similar to this.

hdr

Now, my absolute favorite highlighter of all time is the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.
This gives such a beautiful glow if you apply it with a light hand, but it can also be very blinding if you build it up (which also looks very beautiful).
It’s such a perfect champagne shade, and I cannot be without this.

hdr

Moving on to brows, I wanted to talk about the Studio 10 brow pencil.
Now, I never really got on board with the insta-brow trend because it doesn’t look good on me, (I’m not saying it doesn’t look good on other people), but I prefer to just fill in my brows whereever I need a bit more color, and I’ve been loving this brow pencil for that.
It does last all day, and it’s very easy to work with, so I do really like this.

hdr

Now, I have also been reaching for the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade quite a bit this year, mostly because I sometimes like to switch up the products I use.
And since this is very easy to work with because it’s very easy to both sheer out and build up, I’ve been loving this too.

hdr

Next up I have to talk about the Loreal Brow Artist Plumper.
This is the only thing I’ve been using to set my brows in place, and I love the way it makes my brows look a little bit fuller.
It also makes my brows stay in place all day without feeling or looking crunchy or hard, so I highly recommend this.

hdr

Next I have to talk about the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette.
The shades in here are absolutly stunning, they’reeasy to work with, they last all day and you can get so many different looks from this palette.
So as long as you like warm shadows, I’d highly recommend you checking this out if you haven’t already.

hdr

Next is the Loreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture mascara.
Now, I do have long, mostly full lashes to begin with, so I don’t like mascaras the are too over the top when it comes to volume and length, and this can be buildt up quite a bit, so I can overdo it, but I can also chose to apply one coat and it will still make my lashes look good, so I keep reaching for this one.

hdr

For lips I have been switching it up a lot, but the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liners are so good, that I’ve even kept them in my purse.
These are quite creamy and they do last for a long time on the lips, and for the price you can’t beat that.

hdr

I haven’t really tried any liquid lipsticks, mostly because I don’t like my lips to feel dry, but I did get the NYX Lip Lingerie, and I have been wearing the shade “Exotic” quite a bit.
Now, I don’t think that the formula is anything unique, and it is a bit drying (nothing too bad), but this spesific shade is so beautiful, and I have been loving it.

hdr

Next up is the MAC Lipstick in the shade “Fast Play”.
This is such a deep nude, and it goes with almost anything. I also like to sheer it out a bit on those days when I don’t really want a lot of color payoff, and it looks good no matter how you wear it.
I also find that it lasts for a decent amount of time, and it’s very easy to re-apply, so this one is one of my go to lipsticks.

hdr

And my last favorite is the Max Factor Color Elixir Lipgloss in the shade “Delightful Pink”.
Now this one I always keep in my purse, because it is such a soft shade of pink, it just makes my lips look a bit fuller and plumper. And it’s not very pigmented at all, so it’s very easy to just throw on no matter what kind of a makeup look you’re wearing that day, which is why I love it so much.

So, I would love to know what products you have been loving throughout the year, so let me know in the comments below.

02

So, I got this palette in a LE Glossybox, and I couldn’t help but notice that it’s very similar to the Urban Decay Naked One palette. Now, I do not own any of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, so I can’t say if it’s a dupe or not when it comes to the formula, or even the shades, but it sure does look very close to it.

So in this palette you get 9 shimmery shades, 2 mattes and 1 that looks more satin.
Now, when it comes to the two mattes I will say that I’m not sure what to think, because they don’t really show up on my skintone, but I do still use them to set my eyeshadow primer, and even as transition shades if I want something that’s barely noticable.
But I do also need to pull in other eyeshadows apart from this palette if I want a darker matte shade, which I tend to use most of the time, so that is something to keep in mind if you’re interested in this.

However, when it comes to the shimmery shades in this palette I am a bit more impressed.
I’m not saying that these are very unique shades, or formula, but I do like them for what they are.
The thing I find with these shades is that when you apply them with a brush, you might need to go over them a few times, but if you use your fingers, they will look a lot better right away.
But since I don’t reach for shimmers all that much, I don’t really mind having to build them up a bit. And I do like it when I can control the intensity of my eyeshadows, and I can easily control the intensity with this.

Other than that I haven’t noticed any creasing with these, and they do last all day on my eyes, but I rarely have any issues with creasing, so that may be something to keep in mind.
You do also get a good mirror in here, which I can appreciate. The brush on the other hand I don’t really like.
But I do think that you would like this palette if you like shimmer shades, and if you don’t mind reaching for other shadows as well.

This palette is available in 3 variations on http://absolutenyproducts.com/ for $14,99 each.

Review | Clinique Chubby In The Nude Foundation Stick

hdr

This is what it says on the Clinique website:
Portable perfection for full-face coverage, or bare-minimum touch-ups. Creamy, moisturizing foundation stick blends easily. Builds from sheer to moderate coverage with a natural finish. Long-wearing. Oil-free.

  • Draw several strokes of foundation across the forehead, cheeks, chin and down the bridge of nose.
  • For sheerer coverage, fingertip-blend to a seamless finish.
  • For moderate coverage, use Clinique’s Buff Brush to buff foundation into skin using light, circular motions.

So, stick foundations have been talked about alot lately, and I’ve been very curious to try them, so I got this one from Clinique and I’m actually quite impressed with it so far.
Now, I know that people say most stick foundations usually are better for normal and dry skin, and not so much for oily skin, so I didn’t really know what to expect (not that my skin is very oily anymore, but I do get quite shiny in my t-zone), but it did hold up for way longer than I was expecting.
It did get shiny after about 4-5 hours, and it did fade around my nose/cheeks at the end of the day, but it did hold up for around 6-8 hours without touchups, so I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all.
It might depend on how oily your skin gets, but for me it worked quite well.

Now, when it comes to the coverage of this I would say that it’s a light/medium to full coverage, depending on how much you build it up, but you can easily build it up and it doesn’t look cakey or heavy, so I really like that it’s so easy to control.
I also find that it’s very easy to blend out with a brush, I haven’t tried it with a sponge because it is so thick, but I do think that a dense brush is the best way to go, at least for me.

So, overall I do enjoy using this foundation. It is a bit dark for me right now, and I don’t think that the shade description is accurate online, which is something to keep in mind. But it is a very beautiful foundation with a natural finish, so I would recommend checking it out if you’re interested in trying this.

I got mine from Kicks for 265nok and it’s available in 10 shades.

Disappointing Products 2016

hdr

This year is almost over and I wanted to go through and talk a bit about the products that I’ve tried throughout the year that I find disappointing in one way or another.
Now, I’m not saying that I hate the brand, and I’m not saying that these are bad products, I’m just saying that these products didn’t work out for me.
Also, not all of these products came out this year, but they were all new to me in 2016.

hdr

The first product I wanted to talk about is the Vita Liberata pHenomenal Luxury Tan.
I got sucked into this one because it claimed that it would last for 2-3 weeks, it would fade perfectly, it wasn’t supposed to smell etc.
But this faded so patchy and unevenly in about 4 days, it does smell quite a bit ( I don’t really mind the self tanner smell, but I know that alot of you do), and it does take a lot of time and effort to use this, because you have to apply it 2-3 times, leaving each application on for 10-24hours to get any colorpayoff from this, so I just do not like this at all, and I would not recommend this.

hdr

Next up is the Biotherm Crème Solaire Dry Touch SPF.
This one I got because I wanted an SPF that was mattifying, because most SPFs makes me very shiny and I don’t like that, especially underneath my makeup.
Now, this doesn’t make me shiny throughout the day, so that’s nice, however this balls up, it makes my makeup ball up and look cakey and patchy, and it leaves me looking like a ghost so I don’t really like wearing it on it’s own either, so I was very disappointed with this.

hdr

This SPF from Hawaiian Tropic is sort of the same thing, but this did leave me very shiny.
Now, I wouldn’t say that it’s as bad as the Biotherm one, but it does ball up a bit too, and I didn’t like it underneath my makeup.
Also, it did break me out a bit, so I just didn’t like it as much as I would like.

hdr

This next one is also from Biotherm, and sadly, this did basicly the same thing as the SPF did in terms of balling up.
Now, it did make my skin feel very smooth and hydrated, but it would always crumble off whenever I touched my face, and I couldn’t wear makeup on top of it either.
It might just be that my skin doesn’t get along with Biotherms moisturizer and SPFs, but this did disappoint me.

hdr

This next one is a sample I got from christmas bundle last year, and I just find that it’s too harsh for my skin, and it didn’t really do anything for me.
Now, I’m all for exfoliating cleansers in the morning, but this actually hurt when I used it, and it broke me out, so I can’t really use it.

hdr

Next up I have this hair oil from Living Proof.
So, this product did disappoint me, but I still use it.
Now, I’ve been using argain oil in my hair for several years now, and I wanted to try something a bit different, that’s when I got this.
The thing with this is that it made my hair feel like straw, and I’m used to my hair being very silky so I got so disappointed in this that I went out and bought a new bottle of argain oil in stead.
Now, this oil does work for me when I mix it with my argan oil, but I didn’t really buy it to mix, so I will not repurchase this again when I run out.

hdr

This next product I have to talk about is the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette.
First of all I will say that is a palette that I still might reach for at some point, because I wouldn’t say that it’s the worst thing I’ve ever tried, but I do find that you have to build up the colors a bit too much for my liking.
Now, that does mostly apply to the darker shades, but the darker shades was the main reason I got this palette, and I just wish it was a bit more pigmented, and I also wish that the colors didn’t blend into eachother so much, becuase htey can look a bit muddy, and I would rather spend more money on a palette that ‘works’ rather then saving a few bucks on a palette that ‘doesn’t work’.

hdr

This next product is the Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Palette.
Now, this palette didn’t disappoint me because of the quality, even though it didn’t really blow me away, but this is more of a shade preferance thing.
Because this palette is just a bit too cool-toned for me, since I prefer warm-toned shadows, and that’s why I don’t really like this one.

hdr

Next up is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation.
Now, I do still use this to mix in with other foundations if I need to sheer it out a bit, or if I need to make it lighter, but I really don’t like the way this sits on the skin when I wear it on it’s own.
It clings to dry patches, it looks cakey when I build it up, it emphasizes facial hair, and I just don’t like this.

hdr

I got this eyeliner from Rodial in a subscription box a while back, and I just can’t get it to work for me.
Now, I’ve tried to smudge this out, but it looks very patchy when I do that, so I tried it in my waterline, but it’s not made for that so it did bleed quite a bit, and I think it’s a bit to expencive to do that, so I don’t really think I’ll reach for this at all.

hdr

So I know that almost everybody loves these Soft Matte Lip Cremes from NYX, but I do not understand why.
These were all very patchy on me, they didn’t last on my lips, they settled in my liplines, they didn’t really dry down, they did crumble and ball up on my lips, and I just don’t get what all the hype is about.

hdr

These are also very hyped up around the internett, and I tried so hard to like these, but I just can’t.
I don’t know what happened, but when I used these my lips started to burn, they got very chapped, almost like they were very sunburned, and it did get better ones I stopped using these, so I’m a bit scared of these to be honest.
Now, I’ve never heard of anyone else that this happened to, so it might have been that one of mine were bad or something, but I don’t want to try them again.

hdr

Next I have a couple of lipliners from Catrice.
Now, these lipliners are OK, and they are actually quite pigmented, but they are way too dry, and I really don’t like that.
They’re also a bit patchy, and I have other lipliners in the same pricerange that are way creamier and a lot smoother than these.

hdr

Next I have the Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder.
Now, the only reason that this disappointed me is because it claimed to be ideal for oily skin, but this didn’t control my oils at all. And I bought this in the summer because I wanted something that was lightweight and, at least a little bit, oil controling, but I feel like this is more suitable for normal to dry skin.

hdr

Lastly I, unfortunately, have to mention the NYX #NoFilter Finishing Powder.
Now, I’m abit torn when it comes to this powder, because it is a powder I would use in the colder months, it was a bit too creamy for my liking, but I would use it.
However, my skin started to break out whenever I used this, and it cleared up once I stopped, and no one wants that. And I don’t break out that easily, so I won’t reach for this again.
